Is an Immersive Shopping Experience the Right Fit for You?

Jean Criss

An immersive shopping experience refers to a retail environment or online shopping interface that goes beyond the traditional transactional model, aiming to engage customers on a deeper level and create a more memorable and enjoyable shopping journey. The goal is to make the shopping process more interactive and personalized, thereby enhancing customer satisfaction and increasing the likelihood of sales. Exploring whether an immersive shopping experience aligns with your preferences and needs can be essential to brand growth. Consider factors such as your comfort level and fit, with virtual environments when it comes to intimates, the importance of tactile experiences in your shopping process, and the degree to which you value convenience and accessibility in your purchases. Reflecting on these aspects can help determine if an immersive shopping experience is ‘the right fit for you’.

At CRISSCROSS Intimates our plans involve a focus on bra-fit with virtual try-ons. The retailer could click on the award-winning Nina Bra and ‘step’ into the immersive preferred color bra in a virtual setting, allowing you to visualize what it would look like on you in an outdoor settings, as example, before completing the purchase. The images below show our product development progress in comparison with our traditional e-commerce product images.

STYLE A

A consumer may choose between two online shopping experiences: Style A and/or Style B. Both options offer unique features and design elements, making it advantageous to decide how one may select products of choice when engaged in online shopping. Style A shows the award-winning Nina Bra in an immersive view intended for virtual try-ons or your breast fit. This product is still in development. Style B shows the current luxury undergarments on fit models, in typical photoshoot settings for an ultimate shopping experience. These images now enhanced by AI design tools can be found on the web and throughout social media. So, ‘what would be your preferred shopping experience’ if you had multiple options? Style A, B or both? Send response to info@crisscrossintimates.com - we’d love to hear from you!

Let’s first review some key elements of an immersive shopping experience:

1. Virtual Reality (VR) or Augmented Reality (AR): Utilizing VR or AR technologies to provide customers with a virtual or augmented view of products. This can include trying on virtual clothing, visualizing furniture in a real-world space, or experiencing a product in a simulated environment.

2. Interactive Displays: Incorporating touchscreens, interactive kiosks, or digital displays that allow customers to explore products in more detail, access additional information, and make informed decisions.

3. Personalization: Using customer data and preferences to tailor the shopping experience. This can involve personalized recommendations, customized product displays, and targeted marketing messages.

4. Multi-sensory Elements: Engaging multiple senses to create a more immersive environment. For example, incorporating music, scents, or interactive elements that enhance the overall shopping atmosphere.

5. Virtual Shopping Assistants: Implementing AI-powered chatbots or virtual assistants that guide customers through the shopping process, answer queries, and offer product recommendations.

6. Gamification: Introducing game-like elements to the shopping experience to make it more entertaining and engaging. This can include reward systems, challenges, or interactive elements that encourage customer participation.

7. 360-Degree Product Views: Offering customers a comprehensive view of products from all angles, allowing them to inspect details and make more informed purchasing decisions.

8. Live Experiences: Hosting live events, demonstrations, or virtual tours that allow customers to interact with products and brand representatives in real-time.

Overall, the goal of an immersive shopping experience is to create a more enjoyable and memorable interaction between the customer and the brand, fostering a connection that goes beyond the transactional aspect of buying goods or services. This approach is particularly relevant in an increasingly competitive retail landscape where companies seek to differentiate themselves and build stronger customer loyalty.

Now let’s discuss how the immersive shopping experience may differ for intimate apparel.

Immersive shopping in the context of intimate apparel fashion involves creating a highly engaging and personalized shopping experience for customers looking for lingerie, underwear, and other intimate garments. The goal is to provide a comfortable and enjoyable environment in the setting of your home, as example. Where fit gives you privacy and alternatives that go beyond the basic transaction, enhancing the customer's connection with the brand and the products.

Virtual fitting is a new route to brand engagement. Virtual try-on tools allow brands to bring the discovery aspect of in-store retail to smartphones, while also capitalizing on users’ social media behavior — making the mobile shopping experience more engaging and personalized. This is a connection social platforms like Facebook, Snapchat, and TikTok are leaning into as they build positions as shopping hubs.

Here are some ways in which immersive shopping can be applied to the intimate apparel market:

1. Virtual Fitting Rooms: Utilizing augmented reality or virtual reality to allow customers to virtually try on different intimate apparel items. This technology can help customers visualize how the lingerie will look and fit on their bodies before making a purchase.

2. Personalized Recommendations: Implementing sophisticated algorithms to analyze customer preferences, sizes, and past purchases to offer personalized recommendations. This ensures that customers are presented with options that suit their individual styles and preferences.

3. Educational Content: Providing educational content about different types of intimate apparel, materials, and proper fitting techniques. This can be done through interactive displays, video tutorials, or in-store workshops, helping customers make more informed choices.

4. Inclusive Sizing: Offering a wide range of sizes to cater to diverse body types. Immersive shopping experiences in intimate apparel should be inclusive, acknowledging and celebrating the diversity of customers' bodies.

5. Sensory Elements: Incorporating sensory elements, such as soft lighting, soothing music, or pleasant scents, to create a comfortable and inviting atmosphere in both physical stores and online platforms.

6. Customer Engagement Events: Hosting events, either in-store or virtually, where customers can engage with brand ambassadors, attend workshops, or participate in discussions related to body positivity, self-care, and intimate apparel fashion.

7. Subscription Services: Introducing subscription-based models for intimate apparel, allowing customers to receive curated selections regularly based on their preferences. This approach enhances the customer's ongoing relationship with the brand.

8. Interactive Website Features: Implementing interactive features on the brand's website, such as quizzes to determine the best styles, chatbots for personalized assistance, and 360-degree views of products.

By incorporating these immersive elements, intimate apparel fashion brands can create a more intimate and personalized shopping experience, building a stronger connection with their customers and fostering loyalty in a market that often relies on individual tastes and preferences.

In summary, over the past year, I've grasped the importance of finding the right partners for design and development, and tailoring promotional strategies for immersive intimate apparel experiences, recognizing the unique challenges such as fit and sizing. Collaborating with experts in VR/AR and fashion tech has been crucial, though aligning visions with developers unfamiliar to my versatile brand reaching multi-markets in post-surgical, adaptive and active wear has proven challenging. Despite advancements in technology like 3D modeling and AR, ensuring accuracy remains a priority, driven by user feedback and a commitment to education on fit and comfort.

Amazon’s fashion plans involve a focus on virtual try-ons. Perhaps you’ve tested some of their new tools where could click on a product and virtually try-on the item before checkout. Amazon is building out its capabilities to develop the technology in-house.. They acquired Body Labs, which makes 3D body models used for virtual fit technology. If commercialized, Amazon’s mirror invention would place users in virtual clothes, in a virtual settings, allowing users to see what a dress would look like on, or see a new swimsuit worn at the beach, before completing a purchase.

Below are a few of the CRISSCROSS virtual settings under development should you care to explore.

While navigating brand development and technological advancements, I'm conscious of the ultimate goal: providing a seamless experience, especially for breast cancer survivors seeking comfortable intimates. It's been a journey of balance, juggling brick-and-mortar and e-commerce operations with immersive learning, design, and development. Patience and a dedication to satisfaction guide me; if it doesn't feel right, it's a sign to pause and pivot.

As I contemplate next steps, I remain open to sharing insights and ideas. Your input is valued as I strive to create a brighter world through initiatives supporting the pink cause for the greater good. Here's to progress, innovation, and making a difference—one comfortable Bra at a time. Wishing you all the breast!
